Unsteady Heart

I find that it is too easy to forget the Savior. I want to keep him at the center of my life at all times. But what does that really entail? Constant devotion, daily prayer and scripture reading... I think these are the basics. I think it is an attitude that one must maintain. An attitude of gratitude and love.

Helamen 12:1-3
"And thus we can behold how false, and also the unsteadiness of the hearts of the children of men; we can see that the Lord i his great infinite goodness doth bless and prosper those who put their trust in him. Yea, and we may see at the very time when he doth prosper his people, yea, in the increase of their fields, their flocks and their hers, and in gold, and in silver, and in all manner of precious things of every kind and art; sparing their lives, and delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; softening the hearts of their enemies that they should not declare wars against them; yea, and in fine, doing all things for the welfare and happiness of his people; yea, then is the time that they do harden their hearts, and do forget the Lord their God, and do trample under their feet the Holy One-yea, and this because of their ease, and their exceedingly great prosperity. And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten his people with many afflictions, yea, except he doth visit them with death and with terror, and with famine and with all manner of pertinence, they will not remember Him."

As unflattering as this description is, I believe it to be true because I see the proof of it in history, in current events, and in myself. When I am having an easy time in my life I tend to forget to say my prayers every night and I become lax in reading my scriptures. However, if I am experiencing a difficult trial then I remember to turn to my Lord in need. I do my best to turn to him in joy and gratitude as well, but I am not perfect.

I am so blessed. The Lord has given me all that I have and blesses me with love and joy. I am filled with overwhelming gratitude and love for Him that gives all and gave all. He is Our Savior and Redeemer. Heavenly Father wants to bless us but we have to let Him into our lives and keep Him in our hearts. Always.
